This information portal contributes to the better findability and usability of data to empirically analyse issues in the context of crises and disasters from a social science perspective.
The portal was developed as part of KonsortSWD – NFDI4Society, in the project ‘Vulnerability, preparedness and resilience in crises – data infrastructures for the research of societal crisis phenomena’. It comprises a collection of resources with information sites, data records and survey instruments as well as guidelines on related topics.
Who is the platform aimed at?
The information platform is intended for
- Researchers who investigate the implications of crises and disasters from a social, behavioural and economic perspective
- Governmental and non-governmental organisations involved in civil protection, disaster relief and crisis management
- Representatives from politics, civil society and the media who are interested in information on data infrastructures, data availability and possibilities of data linkage in the context of crises and disasters
Collection of resources
The central component of the information platform is a collection of resources on data relevant to crises and disasters. The resources are linked, described, categorised and thus made researchable. They serve researchers and other interested parties as sources of information on selected aspects and consequences of crises and disasters and map the available data infrastructures in this area. The collection comprises three types of content:
Each resource can be researched using various filters such as year of publication, societal sector, type of crisis or accessibility, as well as content type-specific filters such as survey mode and sample selection (for data records) or language and stage of development (for survey instruments). They relate primarily to German-speaking countries.
The collection is based on our own research conducted as part of the project ‘Vulnerability, preparedness and resilience in crises – data infrastructures for the research of societal crisis phenomena’ and external references. An important basis is the diverse exchange with experts in crisis and disaster research and empirical social research as well as with practioners in crisis and disaster management.
The representatives of the respective organisations are solely responsible for the content of the resources.
The collection and all entries are only available in German.
